Christmas, who made Amherst his final stopping spot with a stint that lasted four years, amassed more than 300 wins during his career as a head coach.
As Austin Deanda marched to the ring inside the Boonsboro Ruritan Club late last month, there was no doubt who the crowd came to see. After all, it was a homecoming fight for the Amherst County native, who was fighting in his tenth professional fight.
“I love to see my whole team eat,” Mosby said after emerging from a jubilant locker room, where music blared to mark a 42-14 thrashing of Amherst.
“A lot of my friends and coaches as me to come out [to try football],” West said. “And it’s my senior year, so I figured I’d try it.”
Amherst County soccer players from Area #24 Special Olympics Virginia attended Fall Champs at Hampton Roads Soccer Complex on Nov. 5-6 and brought home bronze medals in their division.
If Amherst’s Wing-T offense wasn’t going to methodically wear down Orange County’s defense, it was going to be the fresh ball carriers the Lancers utilized on nearly every possession.
In Amherst, Heritage and the Lancers traded scores in the first quarter and early in the second. Then Hov Bateman and Rajan Booker took over for the Pioneers.
