The Amherst County boys basketball team upended Altavista on Thursday night to hand the Colonels their first loss of the young season in a 71-60 decision.

The Lancers got 15 points from Franklin Moore and a flurry of offense from a handful of others to improve to above .500 for the first time in two seasons. Their improvements over a one-win campaign a season ago has been on full display in their first five games.
