Photos: 150 years of visual history in the Lynchburg area

In the wake of the Civil War, the newspaper that eventually would become The News & Advance printed its first edition Jan. 15, 1866, marking the beginning of 152 years, and counting, of covering the triumphs and tragedies, the celebrations and heartbreaks that have made Central Virginia what it is today.

Here is a selection of photos from the newspaper's first 150 years, from 1866 to 2016. With the exception of a few undated pictures, they are presented in chronological order.
