Whitt, Kay Francis Peele
August 6, 1946 - June 28, 2020 Kay Francis Peele Whitt, 73, of Long Island, died on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was born August 6, 1946, in Winston-Salem, N.C., a daughter of the late Romie David Peele and Sally Wishon Peele. She was a member of Union Chapel Church and a retired employee of Wal-Mart. She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Snead of N.C.; and two nieces, Donna Retzlaff and her husband, Doug and Tammie Carter and her husband, Joe; and one nephew, James Wright. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Whitt. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 3, 2020, at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by Bishop Kell Stone. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Donna, 7961 Level Run Road, Long Island. Nuckols, Jesse Thomas
Jesse Thomas Nuckols, known to his family and friends as, J.T., passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on Friday, June 26, 2020, atthe age of 93. J.T. was born January 26, 1927, to the late Kirby Chebor and Christine Oakes Nuckols in Pittsylvania County, Chatham, Va. He was a graduate of Chatham High School, class of '45 and served in the United States Army from 1946-1947. He was attached to the 560th Field Artillery Battalion. He received the Army Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his return from the military to Pittsylvania County, he worked the family farm, which he retired from in 1992. J.T. was a life-long member of Marion Baptist Church and enjoyed his church and church family. He was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and over the years, served as a Deacon, Sunday School Secretary and Trustee for the church. During his lifetime, he enjoyed extensive travel throughout United States and World, where he traveled to 42 different countries. He leaves behind a sister-in-law, Syble Yeatts Nuckols and a brotherin-law, Bob Burris. A niece, Martha Moore; and six nephews, William P. Johnson III, Mark, Stephen and Brian Burris and Kirby V Jr. (Kirk) and Jason Nuckols. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, EmmaJean Johnson and her husband, Billy and Velma Nuckols Burris,a brother, Kirby Vaden Nuckols and a nephew Milton Johnson all of whom were very special to him. Mayberry, Margaret Morris
Margaret Morris Mayberry, 79, of Lynchburg passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Ronald Lee Mayberry. Born November 28, 1940, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Reams Morris and the late Hattie Mayberry Morris. Margaret was a retired secretary for the Central Virginia Training Center, where she served for 23 years and was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie Warren Morris, Leonard "Toots" Dale Morris and Robert "Bobby" Witt Morris. Margaret is survived by her sister, Lucille M. Vaughan and her husband, James of Concord; and numerous special nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Roger Roller officiating. Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery. Walter Carroll Kelly, 74, of Lynchburg, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Emma Holdaway Kelly. Born January 12, 1946, in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late George Alexander and Margaret Wilson Kelly. Mr. Kelly was a retired Engineering Project Captain with Lynchburg Steel and was a veteran of the Virginia Army National Guard. He was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Kelly is survived by one daughter, Julia Epperson and husband Anthony of Forest; one son, Chase Kelly and wife, Kelly of King George, Va.; two sisters, Virginia Bobbitt and husband, Darrell of Lynchburg and Juanita Mayberry and husband Ronnie of Stafford, Va.; one brother, Calvin Kelly and wife Faye of Goode, Va.; and three grandchildren, Kayla Bried, Russell Bried Jr. and Brodie Epperson. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 3, 2020, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Mark Brown officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
