James Wesley Brooks, 69, of Lynchburg, went home to be with his Savior Monday, August 1, 2016, at his residence. He was the husband of 47 years to Vicki Torrence Brooks. Born April 24, 1947, in Lynchburg, he was the son of Robert Wesley Brooks of Lynchburg and the late Lucy Dunn Brooks.James was a retired missionary for Allow the Children serving in Burundi, Africa and CCCD in Jamaica, as well as, retiring from Babcock and Wilcox Company. He was also a member of Timberlake Baptist Church. James served on the Advisory Committee for the Burundi Hope Project. He also served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.In addition to his wife and father, James is survived by two children, Lynn Dorris and her husband, Phil of Portsmouth, and Bryan Brooks and his wife, Niky of Evington; and seven grandchildren.A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 12 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Timberlake Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Brodie, the Rev. Ray Lyons and the Rev. Alan Mason officiating.
