SEATTLE — I wrote last week that success can prompt regret, using the Washington Huskies football team as Exhibit A. Despite having an improbable nine wins thus far — including one on the road against then-No. 6 Oregon — the string of victories had some players lamenting previous losses, particularly the 10-point defeat to Arizona State that cost them at any shot at a College Football Playoff ...

The theme of the Dolphins’ defense this season has been evolution. Evolution sparked by the absence of cornerback Byron Jones and season-ending injuries to safety Brandon Jones and cornerback Nik Needham. The evolution that could take place with the team’s acquisition of outside linebacker Bradley Chubb. The defense will again seek to adapt, this time to the loss of defensive end Emmanuel ...

The hastily assembled American squad was a ragtag group that included a mailman, a grave digger, a dishwasher and a school teacher the first time the United States faced England at the World Cup. The 1-0 upset in 1950 is often likened to the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” win over the Soviet Union at the Lake Placid Olympics as being among the biggest moments in American sports history. Goals by Saleh Alshehri and Salem Aldawsari in a five-minute span in the second half gave the Saudis their greatest win.

Lionel Messi returns to the World Cup for a fifth attempt at finally winning soccer’s biggest prize. He’ll also be hoping to make history with Argentina. The Argentines are among the favorites to win in Qatar and a victory would fill the one gaping hole in his resume. But a win of a draw Tuesday against Saudi Arabia would give Argentina a record-tying result. Argentina arrived in Qatar on a 36-match unbeaten streak. That is one shy of tying Italy’s record for international men’s soccer1. Other games Tuesday include France against Australia, Mexico facing Poland and Denmark playing Tunisia.

Here's the elaborate breakdown from Husky Stadium Saturday: Colorado is awful. We all knew that going in. Colorado knew that going in. A team whose only win of the season came via overtime against Cal — which itself has just two conference wins — wasn't going to upset 15th ranked Washington in Seattle. The Huskies cooked the Buffaloes 54-7, no significant injuries occurred and the Week 11 ...
