How important is your sex life?
According to the World Health Organization, it’s fundamental to your overall physical and emotional well-being. And the reverse is also true — your health affects your sexual functioning.
That’s why Venkata Maddukuri, M.D., medical director of Forest Wellness M.D., treats sexual dysfunction by healing its core physical causes.
“We don’t put a bandage on the problem with a temporary, quick-fix pill that can also have harmful side effects,” she said. “We practice regenerative medicine that lets your body heal itself, so you get safe, long-lasting results.”
Maddukuri treats women and men — and her clinic is the only one in Lynchburg providing regenerative treatment for male and female sexual dysfunction.
She takes the time to get to know each patient, run all necessary tests and do a complete medical assessment. Then she custom-tailors a program to each individual’s needs.
Treatment for men
Erectile dysfunction is the most common sexual issue for men — and there are two typical causes. One is low levels of the male hormone testosterone, which can cause low libido and difficulty achieving an erection. The other is that as you age, blood vessels diminish and small ones may even die off, impairing the blood supply to the penis.
Maddukuri treats low testosterone with bioidentical testosterone replacement therapy, also called TRT, to restore erectile function. TRT could relieve other symptoms associated with low male hormone levels, including depression, weight gain, muscle loss, sleep loss, lack of energy and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
To improve blood supply to the penis, she uses Indiba, a noninvasive, pain-free radiotherapy to restore blood vessels and help new ones to form.
“Depending on the patient’s age, Indiba can take as few as three sessions to be effective — and even after the first session, men often have a good morning erection and are pleased with the instant results,” she said.
She also uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, a high concentration of healing platelets extracted from your own blood. PRP stimulates the production of collagen, which is needed for tissue repair. For older patients, whose collagen production needs a stronger boost, she treats them with plant-based stem cells, known for their powerful regenerative power.
Treatment for women
For women too, hormones decrease with age. Among the problems this can cause are a waning libido, difficulty in achieving orgasm and vaginal dryness that can make penetration painful. Other effects include various degrees of incontinence, urinary tract infections and osteoporosis.
Maddukuri uses bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for women. It can ease or reverse these conditions in menopausal and post-menopausal women — and when younger women in perimenopause take BHRT, she said, many problems can be averted before they start. As a bonus, they may also have fewer wrinkles as they age.
Treatments for women also include Indiba and PRP to regenerate the vaginal walls and restore moisture, as well as high-intensity focused ultrasound, or HIFU, to tighten the vagina.
Therapy that can be life-changing
Many of Maddukuri’s patients are older married people who have not had sex with their spouses for a long time and have lost one of the most joyful parts of their relationship.
Such problems are typical of aging partners. Take for example one woman she recently treated. She was extremely dry inside, so that sex was painful, and she also had a lax vagina. Her therapy consisted of BHRT to optimize her hormone levels, Indiba to restore moisture, and HIFU to tighten her vaginal musculature.
Another recent patient, an older man, had erectile dysfunction, and his treatment, which combined TRT and Indiba, was completely successful.
“After three or four treatments both patients were able to enjoy sex with their spouses again, and it made them so happy,” said Maddukuri.
